Physical Activity Ratings
Understanding Our Physical Activity Ratings for Women’s Adventure Travel
Our physical activity ratings are designed specifically with women over 50 in mind who are generally
healthy, active, and do not have significant bone, joint, or cardiovascular conditions that would limit participation.
These physical activity ratings for women’s adventure travel are based on decades of experience guiding women on
adventures around the world.
At Green Edventures, we believe that where there is a will, there is a way. Many women who travel
with us never thought of themselves as “adventurers.” What they share is curiosity, courage, and a desire to say
yes to experiences they’ve long dreamed about. Our goal is to help women say yes—with the right
information, preparation, and support.
These ratings are intended as a guide, not a guarantee. Daily activity levels can vary based on
weather, terrain, altitude, and local conditions, and some days may feel easier or more demanding than others.
We strongly encourage you to review the detailed itinerary for each trip, which provides the clearest
picture of daily activities, distances, terrain, and pacing. If you have questions or are unsure which activity level
is right for you, please reach out to us at
yes@greenedventures.com. We are always happy to talk it through.
Level 1 – Easy | Gentle Adventures
Designed for women who enjoy gentle movement and immersive experiences, Easy trips prioritize comfort, self-care,
and educational programs.
On an Easy trip, you might:
- Attend group classes or workshops
- Enjoy short walks or light hikes on mostly flat terrain (1–3 hours)
- Explore towns, cultural sites, farms, nature reserves, and scenic viewpoints
- Have generous, directed downtime built into each day for recharging, social connection, dining, educational programs, guided meditation, journaling, or relaxing in pools, saunas, or at the beach
- Stay in 3–4 star hotels, and sometimes cabins or guesthouses
This level is a good fit if:
You’re comfortable walking at a relaxed pace and prefer a women’s adventure travel experience focused on scenery,
culture, community, and education rather than physical challenge.
Trips at this level include:
- Iceland Knitting Tours
- Chile Textile Tour
- Iceland Hot Springs & Mindfulness Tour
Level 2 – Moderate | Active Full Day Tours
Moderate trips are ideal for women who enjoy staying active. Expect at least 2–3 scheduled activities per day,
relatively early departures, later dinners, and going to bed feeling accomplished.
On a Moderate trip, you might:
- Walk or hike for up to 2–3 hours
- Sample a little bit of everything on multi-sport tours, with activities offered at the beginner level
- Encounter uneven surfaces such as forest paths, beaches, meadows, steep inclines, muddy trails, or icy sections
- Participate in water-based activities that may include 1–2 hours of snorkeling per day or 1–4 hours of kayaking per day
This level is a good fit if:
You consider yourself active and adventurous and are willing to buy or borrow outdoor clothing (rain jackets, hiking pants)
and personal gear (hiking boots, duffle bag) appropriate for the destination.
Trips at this level include:
- Baja Women’s Adventure + Gray Whales
- Iceland Multi-Sport Classic Adventure
- Iceland Multi-Sport & Mindfulness Adventure
- Iceland Fire, Ice, Northern Lights

- Tanzania Safari (safari is easy, days are long)
Level 3 – Dynamic | Mixed Challenges & Full Days
Dynamic trips have at least one or more activities in the schedule that are a step up from moderate, offering physically challenging adventures that any healthy person can do with preparation. These activities are rewarding and usually require stamina, physical grit, and a positive, can-do attitude. This level bridges the gap between moderate and hard without being impossible for the average person to do.
On a Dynamic trip, you might:
- Take part in activities that push you well outside everyday comfort zones, such as snorkeling in deep open water,
thru-hiking, or challenging day hikes with elevation gains over 1,500 feet - Be active for 4–8 hours on consecutive days
- Complete 5–9 mile day hikes or multi-day trekking routes
- Navigate rocky paths, roots, stream crossings, and sustained inclines
- Experience noticeable physical exertion at low to moderate altitude
- Participate in noticeably hot, humid, or cold environments.
- Stay in a mix of accommodations (hotels, guesthouses, lodges, or tents depending on location)
- Have fully supported hikes, only carrying daypack.
This level is a good fit if:
You have a current fitness routine—or are willing to begin one at least three months before departure. You enjoy pushing
yourself, want to experience true wilderness or off-the-beaten-path destinations, and are confident with your body on uneven terrain. You are willing to invest in quality outdoor clothing and personal gear.

- Alaska Women’s Hiking & Multi-Sport Adventure
- Hawaii Multi-Sport & Cultural Tour
- Canada Polar Bears & Belugas

Level 4 – Hard | Expedition-Style Adventure
Hard trips are expedition-style journeys designed for women with strong endurance who are comfortable with long,
physically demanding days in rugged, remote environments.
On a Hard trip, you might:
- Hike 8–12 miles in a day with sustained ascents and descents
- Gain and lose significant elevation on rugged, uneven terrain
- Carry a daypack and maintain a steady pace over long distances
- Spend time at moderate to high altitude, where breathing may feel more labored
- Stay in tents or very rustic accommodations in remote locations
- Carry full backpack with all your gear unless advertised as fully supported.
This level is a good fit if:
You train regularly, enjoy pushing your physical limits, and feel energized by trips that require stamina, focus,
and resilience. You are highly fit, adventure-driven, and willing to invest in quality outdoor clothing, personal gear, and equipment.
Trips at this level include:
