For adventurous women who long to walk where few have ever stepped, the Icefjord Trek in East Greenland is both an expedition and a meditation. Over eight summer days — when the Arctic glows with endless daylight and the tundra bursts with life — you’ll journey through valleys carved by ice, along fjords filled with drifting icebergs, and across landscapes that feel untouched by time.

Every step is a lesson in contrast: tiny Arctic flowers blooming between rocks, glaciers cracking in the distance, light that never truly fades. You’ll move through a world defined by impermanence — ice melting into sea, rivers cutting new paths, and clouds reshaping the light.

The expedition is fully supported. Hikers carry only their day packs with water, layers, and lunch. Tents, camp supplies, and luggage will be transferred by boat to each campsite.

And on August 12, 2026, you’ll stand beneath a partial solar eclipse as nearly 90% of the sun is covered by the moon. For a few quiet minutes, the light softens and shadows sharpen — a fleeting reminder of nature’s rhythm, transformation, and wonder, shared among an extraordinary group of women at the edge of the world.

Itinerary

Day 1: Group Flight Keflavik, Iceland to Kulusuk, Greenland

East-Greenland-Womens-Adventure-FAQ003
Arrive at Keflavík International Airport (KEF) by 1:00 PM or come the night before for a relaxed start. If time allows, visit the Blue Lagoon or stroll the seaside village of Keflavík before meeting for your evening flight.

Meet your tour leader at Keflavik Airport in Iceland for a 5:30 PM departure to Kulusuk — a 1 hour 45 minute journey from volcanic Iceland to the wild coast of East Greenland.

Kulusuk is situated on an island surrounded in three directions by other islands and mountain peaks. The name Kulusuk means Chest of a black Guillemot. It is home to about 250 people, many of them hunters and fishermen.

Our guide greets the group at the airstrip. After luggage is loaded on a quad trailer, walk about 30 minutes to the village and settle into a comfortable local hotel.

Overnight: Hotel in Kulusuk for two nights (double occupancy)
Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Tiniteqilaq and the Edge Summit

Icefjord Greenland

After a relaxed morning and last-minute shopping, set sail along Ammassalik Island’s serrated coast toward Tiniteqilaq, a small village perched at the opening of the Sermilik Icefjord.

From here, hike through a mineral landscape to a 410 m (1,345 ft) summit overlooking a panorama of icebergs and glacier-topped peaks. By afternoon, descend to a secluded cove and set up your first Arctic camp. Dinner is a warm, multi-course meal shared beneath the endless sun.

Hiking: ~5 hours
Overnight: Tent camp (tents provided)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinnerAfter a relaxed morning and last-minute shopping, set sail along Ammassalik Island’s serrated coast toward Tiniteqilaq, a small village perched at the opening of the Sermilik Icefjord.

Day 3: The Narrow Fjord and Second Vista

Climb to a higher ridge — 538 m (1,765 ft) — for sweeping views of the Sermilik Fjord. Below, icebergs float like glass sculptures, each one slowly melting into the sea. Descend into the slender Amitsivattiva Fjord, where still waters reflect the mountains. Camp on a gravel terrace at the fjord’s head and enjoy another hearty dinner prepared by your guide.

Hiking: 5–6 hours
Overnight: Tent camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 4: Along the Lake to Sapulik Bay

Follow a turquoise glacial lake through rolling tundra dotted with arctic poppies, moss campion, and saxifrage. Cross shallow, icy rivers and trace their flow to Sapulik Bay, where the Sermilik Fjord stretches toward the Greenland Ice Cap.

Set camp near the shore and savor the serenity of the fjord under a sun that never quite sets.

Hiking: 6–7 hours
Overnight: Tent camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 5: Along the Icefjord Coast to Nuuk Peninsula

Greenland-Flowers-Mountains

Walk north along the Sermilik coast, alternating between rocky shoreline and tundra ridges. Icebergs rest on sandbanks like stranded ships, their deep blues shifting as the sun moves overhead.

You’ll cross a shallow glacial river before reaching Nuuk Peninsula, where camp overlooks a broad bay dotted with ice. Evening brings conversation, laughter, and a satisfying meal shared beneath the Arctic sky.

Hiking: 6–7 hours
Overnight: Tent camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 6: Through the Sun Gate to Qinertivaq Fjord

Depart early through the narrow Sun Gate Valley, a passage framed by peaks and glaciers. The trail opens onto Trout Lake, surrounded by mountains rising to 1,800 m (6,000 ft). Cross a glacial stream, pause to admire carpets of Dwarf Fireweed, and continue to Qinertivaq Fjord.

Tonight’s final wilderness camp rests beside mirror-calm waters reflecting mountains and ice. The light glows gold into the small hours.

Hiking: ~8 hours
Overnight: Tent camp
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 7: The Partial Solar Eclipse — Light and Shadow

Today you sail through the fjords, visiting Kumiiuut village, the WWII airfield at Ikatek, and the towering front of Knud Rasmussen Glacier. The ice creaks and thunder rolls across the water.

By mid-afternoon, the sky begins to change. Around 4:37 PM local time, the moon edges across the sun. At 5:37 PM, the eclipse reaches its maximum, with about 89–90% solar coverage in East Greenland. The light softens to a silvery hue, shadows grow crisp, and the temperature drops slightly — a moment of stillness that feels sacred.

After witnessing this rare celestial event, return to Kulusuk for your final night in a comfortable hotel. Celebrate with dinner and reflection — stories shared over the day’s surreal memory.

Sailing / viewing: all day | Walking: ~2 hours
Overnight: Hotel in Kulusuk (double occupancy)
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 8: Farewell Walk and Return to Iceland

Womens-Tour-Greenland

After breakfast, take a final walk through Kulusuk’s tundra hills, learning about Cap Dan and Greenland’s Cold War history. Around you, lichens and wildflowers cling to ancient rock, resilient as the people who call this place home.

Bags are carried to the airstrip by quad trailer. Your 7:00 PM flight departs for Keflavík, arriving around 9:45 PM. For those continuing home the next day, hotel suggestions near the airport will be provided for an easy overnight stay. Others may wish to extend their adventure and explore more of Iceland — from the volcanic landscapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula to Reykjavík’s culture, spas, and day tours.

Meals: Breakfast

What our adventurers say about the East Greenland Women’s Adventure Tour

Tara and her guide Inga took us to a far away place demonstrating their ability to adapt to weather, nature and airplanes that change directions. Our group visited massive glaciers, awed at whales, hiked … More untouched regions while laughing and sharing with stunning ease in a remote land.

Of the many Green Edventures trips I have gone on, the Greenland trip was mind blowing. The land and people are rugged and beautiful. From traversing rocks and glaciers to seeing how the Greenlandic people … More live, the trip was truly educational and required that I suspend notions of how things "should" be. From hunting to sled dogs to the land, Greenland is just rugged. You think you know until you get there.Green Edventures always finds the best local guides to ensure we get the best experience. As we traveled from island to island, it was apparent that without a local guide we never would have been able to see and do everything that was accomplished in our time there. We had to pivot a few times due to weather or ice movement, but the changes were seamless and the change was as good or better than the original plan.I keep reflecting on a conversation with a gentleman from another tour company. He asked what we did the last couple days. My response was, we climbed to a glacier, saw an ice cave, an abandoned Army base (fascinating!) and went kayaking. When I asked what he did, his response was we saw a dancer (we did too) and went to a movie. He was clearly disappointed. I was glad I was with Green Edventures!Go to Greenland, you will be amazed.Take any Green Edventure trip, you won't be disappointed!

I just returned from a women’s adventure tour in Greenland with Green Edventures. The experience has been life changing. The magnificence of Greenland cannot be overstated. Everyday was a new and awe inspiring … More experience. We hiked on a glacier into an ice cave, which will forever be one of the most incredible experiences of my life. We watched humpback whales bubble net feeding, each moment feeling joy that I was sharing a world with these beautiful animals. We traveled into the fjords, seeing the ever changing waters of the arctic. With our experienced guides, we had opportunities to experience the local community of East Greenland and submerge ourselves into the awesome landscapes. All of this while traveling with a group a new, fascinating friends.

Greenland tours for women boat transfer

F.A.Q.

I have more questions. Who can I talk to?

Call or email us! A real person will answer the phone (or call you back).
(888) 622-4911
info@greenedventures.com

What is the average age of the participants?

The average age range of hikers is 45-55 years. Our groups tend to be multi-generational, so there may be participants ranging from their 30s to their 70s. This trip is open to any woman who is healthy, active, and resonates with the itinerary.

Do women travel solo or with friends?

Both! There is usually a 60/40 split between solo travelers and those traveling with friends. By day 3, we all become good friends, and it’s hard to tell who is solo and who isn’t.

I am a solo traveler. Do I get charged more for a single room?

No. Solo travelers are paired with other solo travelers. There are no forced single supplements. There are single room upgrades  may be available at an extra cost.

Do I need any vaccinations or a medical form?

No vaccinations are currently required, however due to the extremely remote nature of this adventure, we require that all travelers submit a medical form before departure. This form must be completed in full and honestly. We reserve the right to request more information, and/or to have the document signed by your primary care physician to ensure a participant is fit for the physical and mental demands of the adventure.

Do I need a passport?

All participants must have a passport valid for travel 6 months beyond the date of departure. US travelers can visit the U.S. State Department Website for the most current requirements. Most destinations require your passport to be valid 6 months beyond your planned departure date. Check your passport now to avoid last minute stress and hassle.

What happens after I sign up?

You will receive an automatic email confirmation indicating your deposit was received. Within 24-48 hours, someone from Green Edventures will follow up with a personal email welcoming you to the trip! We are excited to meet you.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! Pay a small deposit to secure your spot. Then, pay the balance in interest-free installments using a credit card or checking account. There is no bank transaction fees when you use your checking account. If you want the convenience of using a credit card, the bank will charge 3%. You can switch between two payment options at any time.

What is the cutoff date to confirm the trip?

The trip will need critical mass within 90 days of departure. In the unlikely event we don’t reach this minimum, a full refund will be issued.

Is airfare included in the price?

The package price covers group flight from Keflavik, Iceland (KEF) to Kulusuk, Greenland. Participants need to book their own flights to Iceland. We can offer guidance, and once we have confirmed the tour, we will provide travel parameters for booking your flight.

Are flight delays possible?

It is possible that your flight to Greenland or back to Iceland could be delayed or canceled due to inclement weather. For this reason, our team suggest that you arrive one night early to acclimate and to give yourself time in case of delays getting to Iceland.

If the flight from Iceland to Greenland is canceled, Icelandair will likely put everyone up in a hotel room and re-book the flight for the next available date. Your team will be working closely with Icelandair and will re-arrange tours and excursions to the best of their ability with the resources available.

We recommend you book your flight from USA to Iceland using Icelandair in case any leg of your journey is canceled or if you have lost or delayed luggage. The flight from Iceland to Greenland is on Icelandair and having your booking with Icelandair will expedite rebookings and retrieving lost luggage.

Travel insurance is highly recommended to protect your travel investment should your flights from home or to/from Greenland cause interruptions in your travel plans and additional expenses or loss of pre-paid activities and lodging.

What do we eat on the tour?

We ask all participants to understand and acknowledge that certain foods are limited in this part of the world and there might not be many options. If you have a restricted diet (such as gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, etc), we recommend bringing some of your preferred snacks. If you have a strict diet with zero flexibility or experience traveling in places where certain foods may not be available or are limited, East Greenland is not the destination for you.

Our guide makes sure we buy as much as possible locally, and when available this includes fresh fish. Our aim is to have the food as fresh and nutritious as possible.

For breakfast we might make porridge, the Nordic breakfast classic, which gives fullness and long-lasting energy. We also bring muesli, bread, butter, cheese, and jam. And of course, tea and coffee.

In the morning, group members make their lunch-packs: bread, spreads, hams and cheeses. And nobody should go on a trek without biscuits. We will also provide some nuts and chocolate snacks but those who have special preferences might want to bring a few of their favorite energy bars or snacks.

The guide prepares dinner at the end of the day (help with chopping and preparing is appreciated). Each meal has three courses, starter, main and dessert. We try to have the menu diverse and keep a good balance. To give you an idea, you could have soup to start with, then fried fish and rice, and a piece of cake for dessert.

Where do we stay?

Download the brochure for details. 2 nights in a hotel in Kulusuk, and 5 nights camping in tents. Single rooms and tens may be available for an extra fee. Please inquire.

The general rule is that two people share a three people’s tent, just so that there is enough space for everyone. Additionally, to the individual tents, the group has a mess tent, where you will prepare dinner and eat. The mess tent is also where you can hang out in the evening.

Each pair of people puts up their own personal tent and everyone helps out with putting up the mess (kitchen) tent.

Do I need to be in shape to join this adventure?

The terrain we navigate during the hikes is uneven and sometimes rocky. In certain places we have a little trodden path while in other places we are totally off the beaten track. On the Arctic Villages trip the days including boat transfer are typically shorter, 2-3 hours of active walking, while other days take 5-7 hours to complete. The walks can include exposed or steep, rocky, stoney or uneven terrain. It is therefore very important that participants are fit and experienced hikers.

Hikers carry a backpack with their layers, water, snacks, lunch and trail comforts. Luggage is transferred by boats to camp.

What type of luggage do I bring and are there weight limits?

We recommend taking the most important equipment with you as cabin luggage during your flight or carry the respective clothes/shoes on your body, notably trekking boots and trousers, fleece shirt, warm and waterproof jacket, rain gear, functional underwear, glasses, hat, gloves, and everything else you consider important. In case of baggage loss, you are thus at least able to start the tour.

The luggage restrictions for the trip are 15 kg (33 lbs) per person + 6 kg (13 lbs) hand luggage. We strongly recommend that you travel with a duffel bag and a 30-40 liter daypack.

What safety measures are in place for tour participants?

Your safety is of paramount concern to us. Toward that end, we provide highly competent guides with extensive experience in the polar regions, and the very best equipment. Our trip leaders are trained in emergency wilderness first-aid techniques. Additionally, we will have the following security equipment (first aid kit, satellite device for communication, firearm).

We will be traveling in polar bear country. Although unlikely for us to encounter a polar bear during our hiking activities, for your safety and other group members, your guide will carry a firearm for protection..

What gear do I need for this East Greenland Women's Adventure?

Sleeping bag (0-5 degrees C), sleeping pad. Trekking poles. Water resistant duffle bag, and a 35-45L backpack.
