Learn about Our Women’s Iceland Knitting Tour & Northern Lights Adventure: Watch “Notes From The Field” Episode to hear what participants have to say our their experience on the tour in September 2024.

In collaboration with our Icelandic friends, Inga and BergrĂłs—both knitting experts—Green Edventures crafted an itinerary that seamlessly blended Iceland’s stunning natural beauty with its textile traditions. Fast forward to September 2024, and Trip Leader Tara Short found herself guiding a group of twelve American women on Green Edventures’ first-ever Iceland Knitting Tour & Northern Lights. We spent our mornings in knitting workshops, and the afternoons out exploring and soaking up Iceland’s magic.

And now, we are excited to invite you to watch the latest episode of our series “Notes From The Field Women’s Iceland Knitting Tour & Northern Lights 2024 Replay.” In this special episode, participants from the tour,  trip leader Tara Short, along with our Icelandic guide and knitting instructor, gather virtually to share memories, photos, and lessons learned from this unforgettable adventure.

An Iceland Knitting Tour Like No Other

Our Iceland Knitting Tour was much more than simply a trip to beautiful destination. It was an immersive experience where participants ages 45-74, ranging from beginner to expert knitters, connected with the country’s long-standing textile heritage.

From knitting workshops, soaking in hot springs, and  to our visit to the Istex wool factory, every moment was rich with learning. And who could forget our nighttime dashes to witness the breathtaking Northern Lights? That alone was worth the journey!

But the highlight for many of us was participating in Iceland’s rettir, the traditional sheep roundup. Watching locals herd sheep down the mountainside and joining them in this centuries-old tradition was an emotional and unique experience that connected us to Iceland in a profound way.

Lessons Beyond Knitting

One of the most rewarding aspects of this trip was the community we built. Women of all ages and skill levels came together to learn not just how to knit, but how to appreciate the stories behind the stitches. For me, knitting became less about technique and more about the history, culture, and friendships it fosters.

Our journey reaffirmed that knitting, much like Iceland itself, weaves together stories of creativity, resilience, and connection. It’s not just about what you create with your hands—it’s about the connections you make along the way.
