Why does the packing list for my tour require a duffel bag?
Nearly all of our tours require a duffel bag because our vehicles have limited cargo space. Unlike hard-sided suitcases, duffels are easier to pack efficiently, allowing us to fit everyone’s luggage without taking up extra room.
Unless stated otherwise, a rolling duffel is fine as long as it remains flexible and has no more than one rigid side.
Why is there a size restriction?
- Hard-sided luggage doesn’t compress, making it difficult to stack or fit in cargo.
- Duffels conform to the available space, making packing more efficient.
- Height is the main issue—bags taller than 27 inches may not fit lying flat, and there may not be space to stand them upright.
Luggage size guidelines:
- 22” tall = Carry-on size
- 27” tall = Medium (ideal)
- 30”+ tall = Large or extra-large (likely too big for cargo)
Do I really need to follow these guidelines?
Yes. Our packing list is based on years of experience operating in these destinations with the resources available. Our goal is to ensure you have a smooth experience without surprises, including making sure your luggage fits in our vehicles.
Can I request an exception?
We do our best to accommodate different bags, especially if only a few people exceed the size restrictions. However, if a larger bag does not fit in the designated cargo space, it may need to be stored in the cabin, which could reduce passenger comfort.
