Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to La Paz: The Gateway to the Sea of Cortez

Flights arrive to San Jose del Cabo which is the airport that services Cabo San Lucas. One of our team members will be there to meet you. After everyone has landed, participants are transported via 15-passenger air conditioned vans to La Paz. Trip duration is about 3 hours with a stop halfway for bathrooms. Overnight at 3-star hotel, La Paz.

Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Meet the Gray Whales of Magdalena Bay

Today we head to the Pacific Coast.

We will depart the hotel in La Paz at 7 a.m., stopping for a bathroom break about 1.5 hours into the trip north. The transfer is 3 hours from La Paz to Puerto Lopez Mateos depending on the port where the whale activity is the most abundant.

What is so special about these whales is that some of them are curious about us too and will come right to the boat. You might get a chance to look into the eye of a whale or feel its breath on your skin. Or, you may be lucky enough to touch a whale! The feeling of being close to these creatures is amazing and life-changing. You will learn about their migration, adaptations and why the lagoons in Mexico are protected for them.

The group will go whale watching in the morning and again after lunch. Overnight in Puerto Lopez Mateos (2-star bungalows, double occupancy).

Meals: BLD

Day 3: Espíritu Santo Island Camp

After breakfast we will begin our journey back to La Paz with a stop for fish tacos for lunch on the Malecon.

Before embarking on our ride to the island, we will check in at the dive shop, complete forms and get fitted with gear.

Late afternoon our journey beings to the wild and unspoiled nature where we will spend four nights camping on the island which is also a World Heritage Site and Marine Reserve. The boat ride to the camp is about 1.5 hours and along the way we might see whales, mega pods of dolphins, jumping mobula rays and guaranteed beautiful scenery as you pass by the red and pink volcanic cliffs of the island.

As we pull into the bay of our camp, you will see the tents set up, the sunset shining off of the canyons and the excitement of knowing that this slice of heaven on a beach is your home for a few nights.

Dinner at camp.
Meals BLD

Day 4: Morning Snorkeling & Afternoon Nature Hike

Wake to the sound of water lapping on the beach. Enjoy hot coffee while your breakfast is being prepared. Walk the shoreline and enjoy the peace of the island.

Morning:
Snorkel School in Ensenada Grande Bay. This shallow area is like a pool for us to teach some snorkeling skills and to make sure that your gear is working properly. After a short instruction, we move to a shallow hard coral reef to explore the fish and invertebrates that live there.

Afternoon
We hike at El Cardonal. El Cardonal is a bay that is south of our camp with access to a .75 mile hiking trail that goes to the other side of the island. Along the way, your guide will identify plants and tell you about island geology.  In the later afternoon we go out looking for big stuff like whales and dolphins before heading back to camp. The Sea of Cortez is home to one-third of the world’s marine mammals so the chances are good that we will find something.

Evening:
Learn about and sample tequila

Meals: BLD

Day 5: Morning Snorkeling & Afternoon Paddle

Wake to another morning in paradise. Today’s activities will be determined by wind, weather, and interest. Typically, we have the following:

Morning Snorkeling:
There are a variety of snorkeling sites that can provide us the opportunity to see a lot with very little effort. There are caves and cracks to explore along the shoreline where inverts like soft corals, barnacles cling and blennies hide. Also shallow rocky and coral reefs that taper to about 20 ft where mixed schools of surgeonfish, goatfish and grunts cruz.

Return to camp for a hot lunch.

Afternoon Kayaking:
We use sit on top kayaks to explore the coast in a relaxing paddle. Espiritu Santo Island is a volcanic island and the geology provides a beautiful scene of red cliffs on blue water. Get close to the shore to see Sally Lightfoot crabs, brown pelicans, cormorants and gulls.

Evening:
Dinner at camp

Presentation: Fish ID

Meals: BLD

Day 6: Snorkeling with Sea Lions

Today you play with aquatic dogs!!

This activity is sure to be a highlight of the week – and your life! Juvenile sea lions will dart past you, play chicken and blow bubbles. They might climb on your back, nibble on your snorkel or tug on your fins. Just like puppies, sea lions are a delight to interact with. Be careful not to smile too much, because your mask will fill with water.

The afternoon activity will be determined by the participants’ interests. There are dozens of other snorkeling sites and places to hike.

Evening:
Dinner
Free time and relaxing

Meals: BLD

Day 7: Snorkeling with Whale Sharks

Depart camp after breakfast and on the way to La Paz we look for whale sharks who migrate to the Bay of La Paz each year.

We have a two-hour slot allocated to us by the marine park. Once we find a whale shark, the boat captain will position you in the whale shark’s path. When your dive master says go, jump in and follow the whale shark for as long as you can keep up. It is a humbling experience to be by such a large gentle creature. Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world. They can reach up to 60 ft in length, but we will swim with juveniles who are about 10-20 ft long. These gentle giants eat plankton, the smallest members of the marine food chain.

Picnic lunch on the boat.

Return to La Paz about 2:30 or 3pm. Move into hotel in La Paz.

Evening farewell dinner and walk around La, Paz.

Meals: BLD

Day 8: Goodbyes Are Hard

Our team hates the last day just as much as you will. Saying goodbye to a group is hard because we had a chance to share a place we love with you, and know that we are lucky to have become friends with you because of the Sea of Cortez. Hopefully you have fallen in love with the wild ocean, and that you will go home inspired to protect it.

After breakfast the vans will depart the hotel and drive 2.5 hours to the Los Cabos Airport for your flight back home.

I just returned from a women’s eco adventure tour in Baja Mexico with Green Edventures. This is my fourth trip with GE and each trip is a unique experience. In Baja we were met at the airport by our guide Chabelo and tour host Lori and the adventure begins! After a van ride to the coast, during which our guide noted the fascinating geology and botanical wonders we arrived in La Paz. The next day was morning and evening whale watching seeing the gray whales. We saw so many of these wondrous creatures! We were also thrilled by curious pelicans, and had a pot of dolphins, dancing in the wake of our boat. The next day it was onto the incredible Espiritu Santo Island where we were introduced to our “glamping” site. Although we were technically camping, we were sleeping on cots and there were even flush toilets! Each day we had three amazing meals prepared by an on-site chef. From our island home, we had snorkeling trips to view the rich Coral reefs surrounding the island and saw a vast array of sea life. A short walk inland revealed the unique ecology of the island including some endemic plants. And a highlight of the trip included snorkeling adventures with an opportunity to swim with sea lions in the nearby colony. The sea lions were curious and playful, and would often swim up to diverse to get a good look at you and see if they could engage you in games or a chin scratch! The day got even better when we had an opportunity to swim with the mobula rays. It was like swimming over moving piece of art! Finally, on our last full day, we were sad to leave the island but excited An opportunity to swim with whale sharks in the whale shark reserve near La Paz. The experience was enhanced with the expertise of our Guide Michelle, a marine biologist, with a special passion for whale sharks. With the expertise of our boat driver and guide we were able to all have a chance to view the whale sharks, underwater and experience these magnificent animals up close. On our last night in town, we had a lovely dinner with our guides and a chocolate tasting, which was the sweet dessert on a magical trip. At all points during the trip, our guys and host as well as the excellent support. Staff made sure that we were safe, well fed, and educated. The guides on this trip were obviously passionate about the animals and environment in which they live and work. The knowledge and enthusiasm is shared freely each day. Green Edventures continues to provide excellent experiences!

Went on Baja Excursion with Green Edventures and so happy I did. I've been home for 5 days and still in disbelief about everything I experienced on this trip. We saw grey whales, humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions, many different fish, coral, sea turtle, and I swam alongside a whale shark! The group leader, Tara; the guides, Michelle and Chabelo; and all the team were wonderful. Even before the trip, they provided detailed information so that I was well prepared and packed appropriately. I was anxious about snorkeling activities and thought I might have to sit out on some of them, but they really made the effort to make sure I was trained and comfortable. I also felt and appreciated the deep respect and awe they all have for the environment and the marine animals we encountered. And, the food--so wonderful. I highly recommend this trip and Green Edventures. I enjoyed it so much, I was already investigating their other excursions on my way home!

I just returned from the 2026 Baja Women’s Adventure & Gray Whales Tour (Feb 7–14) with Green Edventures and tour leader Tara Short, and it was truly one of the most extraordinary travel experiences of my life. Tara designed the journey like a perfect crescendo. Each day built on the last — learning something new, gaining confidence, and then stretching just a little farther. By the end of the week, we were doing things we never imagined we could do when we first arrived. We began with unforgettable gray whale encounters in Puerto López Mateos and Puerto Chale. Then came the magic of camping on Espiritu Santo Island — no crowds, no other tourists, just our group of 14, incredible guides, and chefs who somehow created fresh, delicious, beautiful meals in the middle of paradise. The weather was perfect, the stars were endless, and every moment felt both adventurous and peaceful. We hiked among the towering cardón cactus, the tallest cactus in the world. We kayaked in tandem along the island’s stunning shoreline to see sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks. Then we snorkeled with them at Los Islotes — playful, curious, and absolutely unforgettable. And the grand finale: snorkeling with whale sharks, the largest fish on the planet. Awe-inspiring, humbling, and breathtaking. This trip was more than an adventure. It was empowering, joyful, and deeply connecting — with nature, with new friends, and with our own sense of courage. If you are even thinking about this tour, do it. You will come home stronger, happier, and filled with memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you, Tara and Green Edventures, for an unforgettable week.

I took a group of 18 students to Baja Mexico for 7 days in early January. Green Edventures is hands-down the only way to take high school students on an educational yet fun adventure. From beginning to end, everything is organized, affordable, communication is quick and easy, and the trip is well planned with plenty of activities as well as downtime. They teach students while letting them determine their own experience under a safe and watchful eye. Their entire staff was knowledgeable, kind, and supportive to every teacher and student on our trip. When weather didn't accommodate initial plans, they were quick to shift to other activities that were worthwhile. I will definitely travel with them again and recommend that every teacher looking to take a group of high school students on a trip that has both fun and educational aspects does the same. Green Edventures is the best!

Went to Costa Rica on my second trip with GE (first was to Baja). I really appreciated Kelly, the trip leader, and Pepe, our local guide. Pepe's true enthusiasm for nature and his near-spiritual respect for the interconnectedness of life was really moving. He was on a MISSION to find us a sloth, and he did! Kelly is like my big-sister-mom who brings strength, honesty, and true care to all travelers.

My trip to Baja Mexico with GreenEdventures was truly amazing. We had the pleasure of being led by the owner of the company, Tara. She created an atmosphere of excitement, connection with the environment, and so many opportunities to expand our knowledge and skills. The marine biologist, as well as our other local leader, provided amazing context for all of our activities. The attention to detail was amazing as was instruction for every level for our various activities. From whales to sea lions and snorkeling to kayaking, It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. And the connection to so many amazing participants was just icing on the cake. Can’t wait for my next GreenEdventure!

Don’t think twice about going on one of Green Edventures trips! Just do it! I went on the Baja trip and was thrilled. I had never snorkeled before and the staff was so patient with me. Helping me with the tools to make me comfortable in the water. All of the women on this trip were so encouraging. It was a great trip.

I went on the Spring 2024 trip to Baja Sur, Mexico with Green Edventures and the company owner, Tara, was our guide. Tara is amazing and she puts so much time, research, energy and thought into creating an organized, special and once-in-a-lifetime kind of travel experience. We were partnered on this Baja trip with a local group, Fun Baja, and their team was fantastic. From start to finish, the trip was thoughtfully organized, well-paced and full of special moments and opportunities. The pre-trip communication ensured our questions were answered and we felt well prepared for the experience. Spending time on both the Pacific side of Baja and then on the Sea of Cortez for several days was extraordinary. We were treated with one magical wildlife encounter after another. Amazing snorkeling, whale sharks, sea lions, gray whales and even a big tail wave from a humpback whale. The travel experience was a dream! I was so impressed with Tara and Green Edventures and am already looking to book another trip. The challenge for me will be how to pick which one to take next. Thank you, Tara, Green Edventures, Fun Baja and the wonderful ladies who were on the adventure. I made amazing new friends and have the most special travel and wildlife memories.

Baja 2024 (B): Women's Snorkeling Adventure + Gray Whales Tour with Green Edventures Ecotours & Expeditions. The trip (March 2024) was outstanding. It offered a unique travel experience for like minded women to experience responsible marine eco-tourism. We participated in all marine activities: snorkeling, whale watching, kayaking and hiking. All activates Incorporated educational elements that were unique to the area. Kristen, Chebelo and Michele did an excellent job with hands on learning that enhanced each event. The glamping location was pristine and magical. Meals included local and delicious cuisine. The whole trip was well organized and felt effortless from beginning to end.

The Baja tour was absolutely magnificent! From the moment we landed (three hours late!) & Chabello had waited for us to drive us another 2 hours, I realized I could breathe & everything was totally taken care of "behind the scenes" so that our lovely and powerful group of 10 women could have an EPIC, adventurous, unforgettable expedition together. And we did! With the guidance of our fearless leader Kristen, along with Michele and Chabello, I learned so, so much & moved through some inner fears I might not have been presented with unless there was their gentle, knowing encouragement to support us in trusting our courage. The glamping for four nights on Isla Espiritu Santo in our private cove was absolutely exceptional and my experience with the whales, the stunning swim with the sea lions & the feeling of communing with the ocean, earth & unbelievable starry night skies will remain with me for the rest of my life. And I can't forget to mention the abundance of food made by Anna & the back up support of Martin, Chuy and our boat captain Andreas made it so awesome too which matters when out in the elemental beauty of it all! Thank you all so much for making this adventure so amazing! I can't wait for Iceland 2025!

I did the Baja Sur, Mexico trip with Green Edventures and was lucky enough to have the owner, Tara, as my guide. She is phenomenal! She really goes out of her way to ensure that every participant gets the most out of the experiences. The local group she partnered with, Fun Baja, was also amazing! I am a seasoned woman full of adventure. This is my 4th trip with Green Edventure and hopefully not my last one. All trips have expanded my imagination, stretched my comfort zone, challenged my desire to grow and experience life and educated me more than ever! It’s such a coming together of like-minded women regardless of age who supported each other. My first trip was unimaginable, life changing, hiking in Iceland, followed by the discovery of the wildlife in the Alaskan back country, then the over- the- top (pinch me if it’s real) safari in Uganda and last week the Baja Sea of Cortez adventure. On this latest trip, we had a fabulous marine biologist travel with us the entire trip plus a wonderful local expert. Just picture yourself living in a wet suit, snorkeling/diving in caves with the puppy sea lions, up close and personal with the gray whales and snorkeling along with a handsome dive master within 10 feet of the mammoth whale sharks… just to name a few. Rest assured, safety is paramount with Tara and her staff. They go the extra nine yards to make your experience unique.

July 2018 - Alaska: This was simply a wonderful trip. The best thing about Tara‘s trips, besides the destinations, is that everything is just incredibly well planned and communicated. I have never been a fan of organized tours, but I didn’t really want to explore Alaska on my own. This trip was perfect for me. I went solo, but met an amazing group of women and I got to do tons of things that I wouldn’t even have known how to organize on my own. The Alaska trip was especially great because we didn’t really spend a lot of time doing touristy things but rather hiking and exploring and really getting to know Alaska. In fact, everything about the trip was great: the lodging, the transportation, the activities and especially the food! I’d go back in a heartbeat if I didn’t have so many other Green Edventure trips I want to take! March 2021 - Baja Mexico:. Another fantastic trip! I’ve never been to Baja, and it’s so beautiful. Camping on the beach, where our five or so tents and our mess tent were the only signs of people on the island was just enchanting. The experiences we had with the sea lions, the whale sharks, the gray whales and the dolphins were just beyond description. I wanted to take a trip that would get me outside and in nature but yet still be peaceful and relaxing and this trip was both. Once again, the women were great and tons of fun. What a treat it was to go on this adventure! Tara is the best.

The trip to Uganda was the fifth I have taken with Tara and Green Edventures; each as remarkable and as unique as the other. If you want the trip of a lifetime, with like-minded women, no matter what your age, then go to Uganda [for the gorillas and more]; to Baja Mexico [and swim with wild sea lions and whale sharks]; go to Trinidad and Tobago [and wonder at 1,000-lb turtles and rappel down a waterfall]; go to Costa Rica [and discover the awesome Osa Peninsula and zipline]; BUT JUST GO! With Tara and her incredible selection of guides and mentors.

What an Edventure! I loved every minute of the Baja. Everything was exceptional including transportation, food, glamping on the beach, snorkeling with the seals & swimming with the whale sharks. The mother whales and babies swam up to the boat and we could touch their leathery snouts. As a senior traveler, special attention was provided for me by Chabaga(sp?), to assist with climbing in & out of the boat & walking on uneven surfaces. You will return home with unforgettable memories. 'Love you, Tara!

Tara and Green Edventures is the best!! I have been on 3 of Taras trips, Baja Mexico, women's only trip, with my sister. We hiked, snorkeled, scuba, whale watched, paddle boarded. Alaska family and friends trip with my 17 year old son, where we hiked to amazing scenery, boat rides, whale watching, kayaking and extension to Denali. Iceland family and friends trip with my 20 year old daughter. Lots of hiking, beautiful waterfalls, boat rides with viking sushi, lava tubes, glacier hiking, kayaking and the blue lagoon. Every trip was amazing in its own way!!! I plan on doing more trips with her, not sure which one next...Costs Rica, Trindad and Tobago, Uganda, Galapagos??? Book your trip...you will be glad you did!!!

Baja - Trip of a lifetime with great memories made everyday! Starting in Cabo San Lucas to camping on the beach and falling asleep with waves lapping on the shore. Tasty meals from a local chef using local products. Hiking across the island with a great guide pointing out the different cacti and terrain. Kayaking around a beautiful sea lion colony then jumping in and snorkeling with the playful sea lions. and last but not least, snorkeling with a whale shark. I never believed we would be doing that or any of the fantastic adventures Tara Short orchestrated for our group. Boating through an enormous pod of dolphins or an equally enormous group of mobula rays leaping out of the water. Wow I keep thinking of more and more adventures and the great people on the trip -I would love to go back! Thank you Tara for the best vacation!

The average age range of our tour participants is 45-55 years. Our groups tend to be multi-generational, so there may be participants ranging from their 30s to their 70s. This trip is open to any woman who is healthy, active, and resonates with the itinerary.

Do women travel solo or with friends?

Both! There is usually a 60/40 split between solo travelers and those traveling with friends. By day 3, we all become good friends, and it’s hard to tell who is solo and who isn’t.

I am a solo traveler. Do I get charged more for a single room?

No. Solo travelers are paired with other solo travelers. There are no forced single supplements. On many tours a single room upgrade is available at extra cost.

Do I need any vaccinations?

There are currently no required vaccinations.

What happens after I sign up?

You will receive an automatic email confirmation indicating your deposit was received. Within 24-48 hours, someone from Green Edventures will follow up with a personal email welcoming you to the tour! We are excited to meet you!

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! Pay a small deposit to secure your spot. Then, pay the balance in interest-free installments using a credit card or checking account. There is no bank transaction fees when you use your checking account. If you want the convenience of using a credit card, the bank will charge 3%. You can switch between the two payment options at any time.

What is the cutoff date to confirm the tour?

The tour will need critical mass within 90 days of departure. In the unlikely event we don’t reach this minimum, a full refund will be issued.

Is airfare included in the price?

The package price covers land fees only. Participants need to book and pay for their own flights. We can offer guidance and once we have confirmed the tour we will provide travel parameters for booking your flight.

Should I get travel insurance?
