Tara Short - The Believer
Tara discovered her love for ocean life and exploration as a child, vividly imagining herself snorkeling in her grandparents’ suburban Chicago swimming pool, surrounded by dolphins and vibrant fish. These playful beginnings sparked a lifelong passion for the natural world.
In 2008, Tara transformed her love for nature, culture, and education into Green Edventures, a carbon-neutral, eco-adventure company. Initially focused on science trips for teachers and their students, Green Edventures has since expanded to offer a wide range of transformative experiences. From women’s travel groups to wellness retreats and even knitting adventures, these tours are designed to connect participants not only with nature but also with local people and their stories.
Tara believes that every person who joins a tour is meant to be there, and she is continually amazed by how beautiful destinations and meaningful experiences can bring strangers together to form lifelong friendships. Through her thoughtfully curated programs, she blends exploration, education, and cultural exchange, creating something for everyone. Her mission is to inspire participants to learn, build meaningful connections, and discover themselves through professionally guided adventures that celebrate the beauty and diversity of our world.
“Having guided thousands of participants on trips across the Americas, I’ve seen how nature and culture can profoundly change lives,” Tara says. “I consider myself a teacher and guide, but in truth, I’m a matchmaker. My role is to set the stage for people to connect with the ocean, rainforest, desert, and the incredible communities that call these places home. My hope is that they’ll not only fall in love with these experiences but also be inspired to protect them.”
