Itinerary
Day 1: Flights to Iceland
Welcome to Iceland, your gateway to Greenland! Flights from North America typically land in the morning from 6-10am.
Take the Flybus (not included) from the airport to Reykjavik.Explore Reykjavik and area attractions on your own (eg. Sky Lagoon, museums)
Hotel Check in is 3PM. You can leave your luggage at the hotel until you return for check in.
Mandatory trip meeting at the hotel at 4PM. Group welcome dinner.
Note: our partners suggest booking your flight to Iceland on Icelandair incase there are delays with your return flight from Greenland to Iceland. Your flight from Iceland to Greenland is also on Icelandair, and should you have delays, they can help coordinate changes to your travel from Iceland home.
Day 2: Group Flight Keflavik, Iceland to Kulusuk, Greenland
Breakfast at the hotel. Then enjoy a relaxing morning exploring Reykjavik, Iceland and surrounding areas on your own (Sky Lagoon or museums).
Meet at the hotel for group ground transfer to the airport approximately 1:30PM.
Flight departs 5:30PM in a small aircraft (35 to 65 seats) for about 1h and 45 min. Landing in Kulusuk at about 5:15 pm local time.
Kulusuk is situated on an island surrounded in three directions by other islands and mountain peaks. The name Kulusuk means Chest of a black Guillemot. It is home to about 250 people, many of them hunters and fishermen.
After the baggage has been picked up by a local, we walk 15 minutes through the village to our hotel. Welcome dinner and overnight at Hotel Kulusuk (3 nights)
Day 3: Massive Glaciers & WWII Relics
Morning Departure by boat for an 8 hours adventure on the water between islands and giant peaks towards Karale Fjord. We pass in front of Karale Glacier and Knud Rasmundsen Glaciers where we will have picnic lunch on the boat while we wait to observe the calving of the icebergs crashing into the ocean, and looking out for wildlife such as whales, seals, and seabirds.
On the way back we will visit the US second world war military base in the Ikateq area, also known as “Bluie East Two.” The US military used this side to refuel planes that were being ferried across the North Atlantic to England. Today we can roam around through the ruins and admire the surealistic rusty vehicles. On the way back we stop for a short visit at the Sermiligaq Inuit village. Overnight and dinner at Hotel Kulusuk. (BLD)
Day 4: Apusiaak Island Ice Cave & Kulusuk Village Hike
Morning: we will go for a glacier hike and visit a breath-taking ice cave hidden in a remote glacier. The whole trip will take around 4-5 hours and starts with a beautiful boat ride to the glacier, and includes a picnic lunch.
After breakfast, we depart on a local hunters boat for 20 minutes over to Apusiaajik Island and to a glacier with the same name, just off of the island of Kulusuk.
While we make our way over the ocean, we will have the chance to see beautiful fjords, mountain ranges and ice bergs and maybe even witness some of Greenland’s spectacular wildlife! If we are lucky, we might stumble across humpback whales, fin whales, seals or even orcas along the way.
Once our local boat driver drops us off, your guide will introduce you to your safety equipment. This includes helmets and crampons.
Your guide will then safely lead you on the glacier.
The view on the glacier is spectacular and during the easy 30-minute walk it takes to reach the ice cave you will have plenty of time to explore its amazing features like moulins and crevasses.
Once at the cave you will have more than enough time to lose yourself in this surreal world of blue and take in all of its incredible details. On this once in a life-time experience, enjoy all the different and mesmerizing shapes and shades the glacier creates.
After the cave we will make our way a bit further into the glacier to a viewpoint from which we are able to admire the calving front of the glacier.
Another 30 minutes of walking will bring us back to our boat that will get us back to Kulusuk. On the way back we will get another chance to look for more wildlife and take in the beautiful surroundings.
Afternoon: we take a walk in the village and its surroundings, get to know its story, and admire the landscape and the icebergs in the sea (2 hours walk).
Overnight and dinner at Hotel Kulusuk (BLD)
Day 5: Johan Petersen Fjord
We leave Kulusuk in the morning by boat. Beautiful sailing from Kulusuk to Tiniteqilaaq by the Ikaasatsivaq strait (1-1.5 hours). Tiniteqilaq is a tiny hunters village with less than 100 inhabitants, standing at the Sermilk fjord. The Sermilik Fjord has one of the most productive glacier systems in the world, moving over 30 meters per day and constantly calving icebergs.
We take a walk in the village before continuing to the Johan Petersen Ford at the foot of the Greenland Ice Cap, the second largest ice sheet in the world (the largest being the Antarctica Ice sheet). After admiring some of the glacier calving ice we continue on to our accommodations in an Inuit Village for two nights.*
The village location has not been confirmed. It will either be the town of Tinni or Kumiiuut.
Dinner prepared by your guide with some help from the guests. (BLD)
Day 6: Sermilik Fjord Day Hike
After a tasty breakfast, we take a walk to the surrounding hills 3-4 hours, and enjoy being unplugged. Nothing will disturb our peace except an occasional crack in the Icebergs in the fjord or possibly the blasts of gigantic humpback whales, which often migrate directly into the bay depending on the ice conditions.
We will tell stories of explorers and the life of the locals as it used to be. If we are lucky we might spot an arctic fox or some snow buntings on land and a curious bearded or ringed seal swimming at a safe distance. Overnight and dinner in a real Inuit village.(BLD)
Day 7: Tasilaq Hike
In the morning we say goodbye to our rural village and head towards Tasilaq (1 ½ hours), the largest town of East Greenland with it‘s 2000 inhabitants. There is always plenty of ice and icebergs to see. Whales usually always sighted. The most common species include humpback and fin whales. Minke whales are often shy because of hunting activities. There are also two types of dolphins, pilot whales, sperm whales, orcas and of course narwhals and bowhead whales, which are shy and very rare.
In Tasilaq, we settle in to Hotel Ammasalik before going out walking through the town and on along the Tasilaq fjord (4-5 hours) with a picnic lunch.
After walking for a while we turn inland and walk to a nearby lake before taking an alternative path back to Ammassalik. Night and dinner in Hotel Ammasalik. (BLD)
Day 8: Tasilaq Cultural Excursions & Optional Kayaking
In the morning we will explore the cultural side of Tasiaq. The order of activities and types of experience will vary depending on locals who can host us. Some possible cultural programs include: drum dancing (qilaut). That orginates from spiritual shamanistic practices to contact special spirits of the hunting and fishing and was also used to settle quarels and for genaral entertainment. A visit to a hunter and sled dog trainer that will tell us about his life as a hunter and the life of a sled dog, and or a visit to a traditional turf house.
Afternoon
It may be possible to add a kayaking tour to the program. This is based on the availability of guides and may have to be arranged last minute. The cost of kayaking is approximately $250 USD. Those who do not wish to add kayaking, will go on a short walk through town with your guide.
Overnight and dinner at Hotel Ammasalik.(BLD)
Day 9: Tasiilaq Hike to Flower Valley
Just behind the town is a beautiful hike. We walk along a lake to the Flower Valley where we can see several arctic plants in bloom including the national flower Arctic River Beauty, Arctic Thyme, Arctic Bluebell, Arctic Dandelion, and many others. We will continue the small curved path along the river, until we will reach a small waterfall. Here we will stop for a while and enjoy the beautiful landscape and quietness, before heading back to Tasiilaq . 5-6 hours walk. Overnight at Hotel Ammasalik and farewell dinner. (BLD)
Day 10: Kulusuk Coastal Hike Flight to Iceland
In the morning we get a boat transfer over to Kulusuk (1 hour). From a trail that begins from a rocky beach outside of town, our guide will take us along the beautiful coastal trail and through the tiny town. You will might see hunters cleaning seals in their backyards, kids playing with puppies, and other aspects of Inuit life. Hopefully we will see the Great Northern Diver on the lake and admire his skills. Return along small waterfalls and rapids coming from the lake.
Dinner is on your own at the airport cafe or upon arrival in Iceland.
Flight to Iceland. Overnight stay at Hotel in Keflavik (BL)
Day 11: Departure from Iceland
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy the morning in Keflavik on your own. Transfer on your own to the airport via taxi approximately $30 USD per car.

(888) 622-4911
info@3.17.200.177
What is the average age of the participants?
The average age range of hikers is 45-55 years. Our groups tend to be multi-generational, so there may be participants ranging from their 30s to their 70s. This trip is open to any woman who is healthy, active, and resonates with the itinerary.
Do women travel solo or with friends?
I am a solo traveler. Do I get charged more for a single room?
Do I need any vaccinations or a medical form?
Do I need a passport?
All participants must have a passport valid for travel 6 months beyond the date of departure. US travelers can visit the U.S. State Department Website for the most current requirements. Most destinations require your passport to be valid 6 months beyond your planned departure date. Check your passport now to avoid last minute stress and hassle.
What happens after I sign up?
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! Pay a small deposit to secure your spot. Then, pay the balance in interest-free installments using a credit card or checking account. There is no bank transaction fees when you use your checking account. If you want the convenience of using a credit card, the bank will charge 3%. You can switch between two payment options at any time.
What is the cutoff date to confirm the trip?
The trip will need critical mass within 90 days of departure. In the unlikely event we don’t reach this minimum, a full refund will be issued.
Is airfare included in the price?
The package price covers land fees only. Participants need to book their own flights to Iceland. We can offer guidance, and once we have confirmed the tour, we will provide travel parameters for booking your flight.
Are flight delays possible?
It is possible that your flight to Greenland or back to Iceland could be delayed or canceled due to inclement weather. For this reason, Green Edventures has reserved and included a double twin room a day before and a day after your tour in Greenland.
If the flight from Iceland to Greenland is canceled, Icelandair will likely put everyone up in a hotel room and re-book the flight for the next available date. Your team will be working closely with Icelandair and will re-arrange tours and excursions to the best of their ability with the resources available.
We recommend you book your flight from USA to Iceland using Icelandair in case any leg of your journey is canceled or if you have lost or delayed luggage. The flight from Iceland to Greenland is on Icelandair and having your booking with Icelandair will expedite rebookings and retrieving lost luggage.
Travel insurance is highly recommended to protect your travel investment should your flights from home or to/from Greenland cause interruptions in your travel plans and additional expenses or loss of pre-paid activities and lodging.
How do I arrange transportation from the airport to the hotel?
It’s easy peasy to get from the airport to the rendezvous hotel in Reykjavik. The cost is about $35 USD. Details will be provided to you in the travel parameters.

Meals will be prepared by your guide with a little help from the guests. Some dietary requirements can be met with ample notice, but must be adhered to while on the adventure. We ask all participants to understand and acknowledge that certain foods are limited in this part of the world and there might not be many options. If you have a restricted diet (such as gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, etc), we recommend bringing some of your preferred snacks. If you have a strict diet with zero flexibility or experience traveling in places where certain foods may not be available or are limited, East Greenland is not the destination for you. Lunches are typical picnic lunches. Bring trail snacks to supplement. Beverages are not included in the package price.

Do I need to be in shape to join this adventure?

For hikes lasting more than 1 hour, participants must be able to carry a backpack for the duration of the hike containing layers, picnic lunch, and water, weighing at least 10 pounds. Hikes are 5-7 hours with many stops for enjoying nature. The highest elevation gain is 1500 ft. Most activities are at sea level.

Additionally, participants must not have vision issues that impact their ability to navigate uneven footpaths.

Ultimately, our guides make decisions with everyone’s comfort and safety in mind, while trying to maximize the adventure experience for each individual. We must stress that listening carefully to your guide’s instructions and directions is ultimately your responsibility and in your best interest and that of the group. Guides and trip leaders have the authority to deny anyone from participating in a specific activity or to remove a participant from the entire tour without refund who is deemed unsafe to themselves or the group.
What gear do I need for this East Greenland Women's Adventure?
All participants must bring quality outdoor clothing on this expedition for their comfort and safety to be prepared for all types of weather and the hiking activities. A detailed packing list for this tour is available here:

Should I get travel insurance?
Green Edventures does not provide medical or travel insurance in the package price. A comprehensive travel insurance policy will cover medical evacuation.
