Tour Leader: Kelly VanLaanen
Join us on one of Green Edventures’ most beloved adventures as we explore the wild beauty of Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula. Designed for active travelers who love nature, and led by our expert local guide, this tour is both informative, unique, and wildlife-focused. Each day you will trek rainforest trails and check dozens of animals off of your must see bucket list.
The journey begins in San José before heading to the Osa, where rainforest meets ocean in one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Participants will explore wild beaches, swim in cool tidal rivers, and hike rainforest trails in search of wildlife such as four species of monkeys and sloths, and learn the story of the forest—how plants and animals have evolved together in a delicate web of adaptation and survival.
Along the way, we stay in eco lodges tucked in nature surrounded by jungle sounds and ocean breezes. Meet locals who share traditional skills, from making coconut oil to processing and chocolate from seeds, snorkel in the Golfo Dulce while watching for dolphins from the boat,.

Your Team: The Heart and Soul of Every Green Edventures Tour
Kelly Van Laanen, Tour Leader
Guests often say Kelly seems to know what they need before they do. She’s kind, upbeat, endlessly engaging, and brings just the right balance of calm confidence and fun. Whether she’s pacing a hike so everyone feels supported, planning a surprise New Year’s Eve celebration complete with eco-friendly gifts and laughter, or quietly checking in on someone adjusting to heat or humidity, Kelly makes solo travelers feel instantly at ease and longtime adventurers feel fully cared for. Many guests say they’d sign up for another trip simply because Kelly is leading it.
Pepé, Local Guide
Pepé’s passion for Costa Rica is contagious. Guests describe him as “giddily joyful” when spotting a new bird, reptile, or elusive sloth—and his determination often turns bucket-list dreams into reality. His depth of knowledge in natural sciences is extraordinary, but what truly sets Pepe apart is how he connects nature to something bigger. A walk doesn’t just pass an anthill; it becomes a lesson in ecosystems, humanity, and our relationship with the planet. Hikes naturally pause as monkeys appear, birds call overhead, or a forest reveals its stories—moments that stay with guests long after they return home.
Together, Kelly and Pepé create an experience where everyone belongs. Faster hikers can move ahead with Pepe, while those who prefer a gentler pace are fully supported by Kelly—no pressure, no judgment, just encouragement. Guests repeatedly mention how safe, prepared, and thoughtfully guided they feel, from pre-trip planning and packing lists to daily logistics handled seamlessly behind the scenes.

Spend the day exploring La Tarde’s ficus trails and discovering its natural wonders. Later, learn how to make coconut oil from scratch and take home your own sample.
