A Message from our Founder & CEO and recent updates to our travel policies regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus 2019).
Thank you to everyone who has trusted Green Edventures over the past 11 years!! It is hard to believe that a company I created with my last $1,000, and led our first trips to Alaska & Baja Mexico with 30 students combined, has grown to leading 300 travelers per year across 9 destinations! This year, we are also celebrating 10-years of Women’s Travel adventures in partnership with the International Becoming an Outdoors Woman program. None of this would have been possible without building strong relationships with our travelers, and the local guides who have helped our participants experience the extraordinary.
In March, when worldwide travel was grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all of us were faced with a new set of challenges and uncertainty. The travel industry was hit especially hard. Thankfully, 65% of our Adventure Buddies postponed their trips until 2021, and our partners (and their families) are healthy, and are sheltering in place around the world anxiously awaiting to welcome tourists once again. Green Edventures has the best Adventure Buddies and we appreciate that most of you chose to postpone your trip rather than cancel. Tourism dollars support local people and protect wildlife and wild places that we love. When this is all over, we want to be part of the solution that ensures those animals and parks are still when we are ready to visit — and for generations to come.
If you are reading this update, you are either a current traveler checking in on the status of your trip, or you are a considering an upcoming trip mid-summer 2020 through 2021. Either way, I hope that this update will bring you peace of mind with regards to traveling with Green Edventures this summer or next.
Is my trip still on?
We are making decisions about departures 30 days at a time. Trips from July 1 and are still a go. Those interested in Iceland can read our latest country-specific update.
What will happen if the trip is postponed due to COVID-19 related issues?
Participants can choose one of these two options 1) Postpone their trip for 2021 dates with a full credit and with no increase in the advertised land fee. No further installments will be due until 60-90 days from the trip’s new departure date, based on the destination and the amount of funds in the participant’s account at the time, or 2) Cancel with a partial credit. The credit is determined by subtracting the monies paid toward the trip less the cancellation fee. The cancellation fee varies by the destination, and the amount of unrecoverable costs associated with the trip per participant. An email was sent in March, to all participants of scheduled trips April and beyond indicating what the cancellation fee would be if their trip should be postponed.
Updated Cancellation Policy:
Sign up with a non-refundable deposit. Final payment is due 30 days before travel.
Participants can sign up with a deposit and cancel for any reason for a full refund until September 2, 2020. Each trip has a different peace of mind cancellation policy based on the departure date and destination. Before you submit your deposit, you will have read and acknowledge the destination-specific cancellation policy. If it is unsafe or not possible to travel to the destination due to man-made or natural events, Green Edventures reserves the right to postpone any trip. For postponed trips, participants can choose to postpone with a full credit, or cancel for a fee.
How do I know my travel funds are safe with Green Edventures?
Green Edventures does not use travel funds for operations. The monies you pay go into an account and then are forwarded to our partners based on the payment terms we have with them. Installments for trips, often following payment plans that are based on agreements with our partners.
Why can’t I get 100% refund back if I cancel or my trip is postponed?
As soon as the trip is confirmed, Green Edventures goes to work for you to secure access to places, guides, transportation, and experiences that are in high demand. Imagine signing a contract to build a house and then once the house is built, asking the contractor to take it down for free, and give you a full refund. That just is not possible when you enter a contract to build a house, and not possible when you join a group trip, or customize a trip for your group or family.
Our cancellation policy is not to be unfair or to keep your money. The cancellation policy is to protect all our travelers and our partners. When you sign up for a trip, you are committing to joining that trip. We offer a limited number of departures per destination per year. Your fellow Adventure Buddies are counting on you to follow through. If you cancel, you could jeopardize the critical mass numbers for the group.
I understand that life happens. This is why you should purchase a travel insurance policy to protect your investment.
Should I purchase travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance is highly recommended. Travel insurance is available from our website (click Travel Insurance above) or via another provider of your choice. Travel insurance should be comprehensive, not just covering your airfare. Also, read all of the fine print for coverage. Travel insurance does not cover everything that could cancel or interrupt your travel plans.
How is Green Edventures making modification to keep travelers healthy?
In addition to following the procedures for disease prevention listed by the CDC, we are working with our local partners to create healthy environments for our travelers. The very nature of what we do is the type of tourism most people will be seeking out when this is all over. People will want small group experience, far from crowds, in the outdoors. Participants will receive updates about any trip-specific protocol updates in their pre-travel packets before departure.
I have more questions, who can I contact?
Please direct any questions to me. I am your first Adventure Buddy and I am here to help you in any way that I can.
Thanks you so much for your support and consideration.
Yours in Adventure,
Founder & CEO
